Keeping Up Appearances

Shen you're a Stay At Home Mom, you sometimes feel that that's all you do: stay at home. Even though you love being home with your children, you may find yourself slacking on keeping up your appearance because nobody much sees you except your family. They'll love you anyway, whether you're at your ultimate glow or not, right?

Right. Of course they will. But you'll love yourself more if you devote time to keeping yourself looking attractive.

Plan a day each week for a basic beauty routine. Set this time aside for things like giving yourself a manicure and pedicure, a hot oil treatment for your hair, waxing your legs perhaps, a facial, or anything that will contribute to your overall grooming and make you feel pampered and pretty. You'll be surprised how utterly fantastic this will make you feel!

There are many cost-conscious beauty routines and tips---things you can do to make yourself look and feel like a hundred bucks, without spending a hundred bucks. Would you be surprised to learn that most of the ingredients for a facial that will rival one from a pricey spa are right in your pantry and refrigerator? Read on! Here are a few basic recipes for beauty products that you can make at home:

Oatmeal Banana Facial Mask: Add 1/4 cup of uncooked oats to one mashed ripe banana. Spread this mixture on your face and allow it to partially dry, then rinse off thoroughly. Bananas are rich in potassium, and act as a wonderful natural moisturizer. The oatmeal exfoliates, giving your skin a natural glow.

Olive Oil, Egg & Honey Facial: Mix and whip together one whole egg, 1/4 cup of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of honey. Lather this mixture onto your face and throat. Leave on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Applesauce Mask: Mix together 1 tablespoon of applesauce and 1 tablespoon of wheat germ. Apply to face and neck, leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Egg Hair Conditioner: Beat 1 egg yolk, then slowly drizzle 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil into the beaten yolk. Add ¾ cup warm water. After shampooing your hair, massage the conditioner into your hair. Leave the condition in for 2-4 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Mayonnaise Conditioner: After shampooing hair, take 1/4 cup of mayonnaise and massage it into your hair. Wrap your hair in a warm towel, leave the mayonnaise in for approximately 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Egg White Protein Treatment: After shampooing hair, mix together one egg white that has been beaten until frothy with 5 tablespoons plain natural yogurt. Apply mixture to the hair in small sections at a time. Leave in for approximately 10-15 minutes. Rinse hair thoroughly with lukewarm water. Caution: Do not use very hot rinse water, you will cook the egg white!

Kitchen Cabinet Bath Salts: Mix together 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon cream of tartar, 1 cup of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1 cup nonfat powdered milk. Add as much as you like to your bath water, then settle in for a wonderfully relaxing, skin softening soak!
